(DDM) – The African Democratic Congress has resolved to proceed with its scheduled congresses from ward to national level despite the ongoing leadership dispute.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that the party leadership insists there is no legal barrier preventing it from conducting the congresses.
According to party sources, the decision is based on the position that monitoring by the Independent National Electoral Commission is not a mandatory requirement for such internal processes.
The ADC also maintained that the existing court order did not remove the National Working Committee led by David Mark.
Party officials argued that interpretations suggesting otherwise are misleading and politically motivated.
They further revealed that the ADC had formally notified INEC of its plans to conduct the congresses across all levels.
According to the party, the notification was duly received and acknowledged by the electoral body.
This development, the party claims, reinforces its position that it is acting within the bounds of the law.
The move signals a firm stance by the ADC amid ongoing tensions over its leadership structure.
Observers say the decision could escalate the crisis, especially if opposing factions challenge the legitimacy of the congresses.
Political analysts note that internal party congresses are critical in determining leadership structures and candidate selection ahead of elections.
They add that any dispute arising from the process could have far-reaching implications for the party’s future.
The situation comes at a time when the ADC is experiencing increased political attention and realignments.
Some stakeholders believe the party’s growing influence may be contributing to the heightened internal and external pressures.
Supporters of the current leadership have expressed confidence that the congresses will be conducted smoothly and transparently.
However, critics warn that unresolved legal and political issues could undermine the credibility of the process.
As preparations continue, attention remains on how INEC and the courts may respond to the unfolding developments.
The outcome of the congresses is expected to play a significant role in shaping the ADC’s structure and political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
