(DDM) – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed a list of its state chairmen nationwide.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the party described the report as “fake news,” aimed at creating confusion and misleading both party members and the general public.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC national publicity secretary, emphasized that INEC had neither issued nor validated any such list, whether officially or unofficially.
Abdullahi explained that the process of constituting and ratifying state leadership rests solely within the party’s constitutional framework.
He stated, “INEC only recognises what the party submits through the appropriate channels after due process. As of today, no such comprehensive list has been submitted or confirmed by INEC.”
The statement further advised members to remain calm and to rely exclusively on official communication from the party’s national leadership.
“The public is advised to disregard the fake list in circulation. Any authentic update regarding party structure will be communicated via our verified channels,” Abdullahi added.
Political analysts say the denial highlights ongoing challenges in Nigerian politics, where misinformation can easily disrupt party operations and public perception.
The ADC, a growing opposition party, has been keen to maintain internal cohesion and prevent speculation that could undermine its organizational structure ahead of upcoming elections.
Party insiders noted that ratification of state chairmen involves thorough internal consultation and verification before submission to INEC.
They stressed that only after completing this internal process will the commission recognize any leadership appointments officially.
The controversy surrounding the purported list comes at a sensitive time as political parties across Nigeria prepare for local and national elections.
Observers suggest that fake news of this nature could be used by rivals to create discord or question the legitimacy of party leadership.
The ADC’s leadership has reiterated its commitment to transparency and compliance with both internal party rules and national electoral regulations.
Members and the public have been urged to monitor verified channels, including official social media accounts and press releases, for accurate updates on party structures.
This move is expected to reinforce internal discipline and prevent the spread of misleading information that could affect voter confidence.
