Adeleke orders newly sworn-in chairmen, councilors to stay away from LG secretariats

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the newly elected local government chairmen to stay away from local government council secretariats.

Ademola Adeleke was born on May 13, 1960, in Ede, Osun State.

He studied Criminal Justice at Jacksonville State University, USA.

He was a senator (2017–2019) and became Osun governor in 2022.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) he explained that this measure is necessary to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.

Adeleke emphasized that his administration is focused on transforming the state for the better.

He charged the newly sworn-in officials to work within the manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor gave these directives while administering the oath of allegiance and oath of office to the 30 local government chairmen and vice-chairmen.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Osun State Government House on Sunday.

Addressing the newly sworn-in local government officials, Adeleke described the event as the culmination of the people’s collective efforts.

He recalled the journey leading up to this moment, noting that it is the final phase of a process that began a year ago.

Adeleke urged the officials to be agents of change in their respective communities.

He stressed that they should focus on community development and delivering the dividends of democracy.

“We will not fail you. People’s welfare will continue to be our watchword,” Adeleke assured.

He commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for conducting a successful election.

The governor also praised security agencies and state officials for their contributions to the smooth conduct of the exercise.

Adeleke expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for maintaining peace in Osun State.

“I assure Mr. President of my commitment to the rule of law,” he stated.

The event also had the presence of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who congratulated the newly sworn-in officials.

Makinde reminded them of the promises they made during their election campaigns.

He urged them to seize this opportunity to deliver development at the grassroots level.

“This will be your stepping stone to higher positions. The reward for hard work is more opportunities,” Makinde said.

Makinde expressed concern over the violent incidents that erupted in the state on Monday, February 17, 2025.

He noted that his visit was to prevent a repeat of history and ensure peace.

“We don’t want ‘wild wild West’ again. They should stay away from this zone,” he warned.

Makinde emphasized that their focus should be on peacefully providing the dividends of democracy to the people.

He cautioned against resorting to self-help, even in the face of a court judgment.

“They should not think because they have federal might, this is a federal arrangement. I will stop here,” he added.

Earlier, the chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Barrister Hashim Abioye, presented certificates of return to the elected chairmen.

Abioye congratulated them on their victory and encouraged them to uphold the principles of democracy.

He urged them to be good ambassadors in both their conduct and service to the people.

OSSIEC had announced the election results on Saturday.

The commission declared candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winners of all 332 councillorship seats.

Additionally, PDP candidates secured all 30 local government chairmanship seats in the state.
