AEDC Disconnects Niger Government House, House Of Assembly, Others Over N1.8Billion Debts

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disconnected facilities belonging to the Niger state government for failing to pay current and outstanding energy bills.

The company disconnected Government House, House of Assembly, General Hospital in Minna, IBB Specialist Hospital, State Water Board, and the State Secretariat are among the facilities affected by the disconnection.

According to SaharaReporters , it was gathered that the disconnection was the third time the company disconnected the public infrastructure from public power supply over the inability of the state government to pay light bills.

It was learnt that the government reached an agreement with the firm in August to pay its current and outstanding debts.

It was gathered that AEDC first disconnected government facilities on April 20 and it was disconnected for the second time on August 26.

At the time of this report, power supply to all the various offices and departments had not been restored.
Officials of the AEDC were reportedly seen with ladders going around the offices to disconnect the power supply.

AEDC said the government failed to meet up with its agreement to pay its outstanding debts of over N1.8 billion agreed before the electricity was reconnected in August.

The Public Relations Officer of AEDC (Niger Region), Mohammed Adamu, confirmed the disconnection.
“The development is true, but we are holding a meeting so I cannot give you more details,” he added
