The African Development Bank (AfDB) has officially revealed the final list of five candidates vying for the institution’s presidency.

This announcement followed a two-day meeting of the steering committee at the bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The candidates cleared to contest the May 29 election include Hott Amadou of Senegal, Maimbo Munzele of Zambia, and Tah Ould of Mauritania. Additionally, Tolli Mahamat of Chad and Tshabalala Swazi of South Africa will also compete for the prestigious position.

The AfDB emphasized the importance of this election in shaping the institution’s future leadership. The selection process underscores the bank’s commitment to transparency and merit-based decision-making in its governance.

The winner will succeed Akinwumi Adesina, who has held the position since 2015.

In a recent interview with Arise Television on February 10, Adesina reflected on his tenure and shared his aspirations for the future.

He expressed his readiness to serve in any capacity after stepping down as president. Adesina described himself as an instrument dedicated to improving lives and fostering community transformation.

“There’s nothing else that makes me happier than seeing the lives of people transform.

That is what gives me satisfaction,” he remarked during the interview.

He reaffirmed his commitment to service, stressing his readiness to contribute globally, throughout Africa, or within Nigeria. He emphasized his dedication to making a meaningful impact wherever needed.

The upcoming election represents a pivotal moment for the AfDB. It signals a leadership transition that will define the bank’s future direction and its role in driving development across Africa.
