Again, Gov. Sanwo-Olu caught in alleged fake WAEC result scandal

Barely twenty-four hours after News Band reported that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has no valid voter registration despite casting his vote during the recently held general election across the country, the number one Lagos citizen has been embroiled in another scandal involving alleged fake result of the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The matter was unearthed during the hearing of the petition filed at the state’s election petition Tribunal by the Lagos State Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

According to findings by News Band, Sanwo-Olu filed a result purportedly issued by WAEC in 1981 with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, by April 7th, 2023, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed their petition at the Tribunal, the result was not present on the WAEC verification portal.

To ensure that the matter was clearly driven home, the Party issued a subpoena to WAEC and an official that represented the Examination Council said he could not provide a Certified True Copy (CTC) of Sanwo-Olu’s result.

PDP, thus, asked the court to disqualify Sanwo-Olu from participating in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election on the pretext that he does not possess a WAEC result.

To the shock and chagrin of the court, as well as the petitioners, however, presumably after the petition filed on April 7, 2023, the transcript of Sanwo-Olu’s WAEC result appeared on WAEC verification portal.

Consequently, the court has ordered WAEC to tender the backend of its server to verify when Sanwo-Olu’s result was uploaded.

If it was discovered that either WAEC officials or the politician have been involved in any form of forgery, it may lead to total disqualification of the governor and possible prosecution.

In the meantime, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, is also facing charges of citizenship as he reportedly disowned Nigerian citizenship and took on that of the United States.
