Former Anambra State Governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has visited Edo State despite an earlier warning from Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Obi arrived in Benin City on Wednesday to attend the service of songs and other funeral activities for the late Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze.
Videos circulating online showed hundreds of residents lining the streets and welcoming Obi as his convoy made its way to the Holy Cross Cathedral.
The visit has sparked reactions on social media, with some users questioning the governor’s response to Obi’s presence in the state.
Commentators also highlighted the large crowd that reportedly gathered spontaneously after news of Obi’s arrival spread.
Okpebholo had previously warned Obi against visiting Edo without prior notification and official security clearance, a position that attracted criticism from some Nigerians who argued that Obi, as a Nigerian citizen, has the right to visit any state.
