Senate President Godswill Akpabio has discontinued all pending defamation suits against individuals, including Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following a New Year Mass message.
Akpabio made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing worshippers at Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, where he said the priest’s sermon prompted a personal reflection.
He directed his solicitor to withdraw the lawsuits.
The suits included a N200bn defamation case against Akpoti-Uduaghan over sexual harassment allegations, which Akpabio denied.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had also filed a N100bn defamation suit against Akpabio.
The move ends the widely reported litigation between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had accused him of influencing her Senate suspension.
