Akpabio’s aide Okolugbo petitions IGP over alleged hacking, defamation by influencers

Former Delta State Commissioner and Special Adviser on Communications/ Strategy to the President of Senate, Mr. Kenny Okolugbo, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun over an alleged cybercrime involving hacking, criminal impersonation, and a coordinated disinformation campaign against him.

In a petition dated June 10, 2025, Okolugbo detailed how his verified X (formerly Twitter) account (@kennyokolugbo) was hacked on June 7, 2025, to publish a false statement.

The contentious post claimed he had apologized to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and admitted to conspiring with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and others to damage her reputation.

“The said post, which I did not author, purported to issue an apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan and made spurious claims that I had been involved in a conspiracy with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and others to tarnish her image. The false statement concluded with a fabricated plea: “May Allah have mercy on me.”

“As a devout Christian and Knight of the Church, it is completely out of character for me to use such religious language. More importantly, the entire content of that statement is false, defamatory, and intended to manipulate public perception,” part of the post read.

Further denying authorship of the post, Okolugbo stating that his travel records prove he was not in London in 2025, contrary to claims in the fake statement.

He also denied knowing one Dr. Sandra Duru, who was mentioned in the post.

The petition further accused social media influencers including Tunde Ednut (@mazitundeednut), Rufai Oseni (@ruffydfire), and Adeola Fayehun (@adeolafayehun) of amplifying the false claims and adding fabricated details, including allegations of phone cloning and multiple meetings in London.

He described their actions as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to tarnish his reputation.

“Their coordinated timing, near-identical language, and deliberate escalation of falsehoods point to a syndicated disinformation campaign meant to destroy my credibility, mislead the public, and falsely elevate Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan’s allegations,” he observed.

He urged the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the hacking under the Cybercrimes Act, prosecute those responsible, question the influencers involved, and secure digital evidence for forensic analysis.

Okolugbo attached his travel passport and screenshots of the alleged fake post as evidence.
