Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, has denied sponsoring a bill that would criminalize relationships between women and married men.

The claim, circulating on social media, alleged the bill would impose a 10-year jail term on women and a ₦2 million fine on men involved.

Eyakenyi’s office called the claims “false, misleading, and baseless,” stating she hasn’t sponsored any such bill in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The statement noted that, constitutionally, the Deputy Governor cannot personally sponsor a bill, and any executive bill must be approved by the State Executive Council before being transmitted to the legislature.
