The Egyptian government has finally released an Aljazeera journalist, Mahmoud Hussein after four years of illegal detention.

Hussein was arrested on his arrival in Egypt on 23 December 2016 on a flight from Qatar, where he worked as a producer at Al Jazeera’s headquarters.
He had flown to Egypt to visit his Egyptian family but was detained on charges of “membership of a terrorist group” and “spreading fake news.”
Egypt regards Al Jazeera’s coverage as biased in favour of the Muslim Brotherhood, the movement that backed former President Mohamed Morsi.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has condemned the crackdown on the media and journalists in Egypt since the military coup that brought Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to power in 2013.
The number of journalists and bloggers detained in Egypt now stands at 33. This is more than in any other country in the world except China and Saudi Arabia.
RSF constantly campaigns on behalf of all journalists who are unjustly imprisoned in Egypt and elsewhere in the world.
