Kaduna, Nigeria — Transport Minister Saidu Alkali announced major infrastructure progress in Northern Nigeria under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at a government-citizen forum in Kaduna on Wednesday, he emphasized equitable development and improved national connectivity.

Key rail projects, previously stalled, have advanced significantly under Tinubu’s administration.

The Kaduna-Kano rail line jumped from 15% to 53% completion, while the Kano-Maradi line surged from 5% to 61%.

Additionally, sections of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri corridor are progressing steadily.

Beyond railways, Alkali highlighted the 1,068km Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway as a transformative project.

This route links seven states, boosting trade and regional integration. “The North is benefiting greatly from this administration’s infrastructure drive,” he stated.

Revival of Stalled Projects

Tinubu’s direct engagement with Chinese partners unlocked funding delays, reviving critical projects.

The Lagos-Kano narrow gauge line is also being rehabilitated to enhance freight movement and inland dry ports in Kano and Kaduna.

Housing and Energy Expansion

Over 3,000 housing units have been built across Northern states under the Renewed Hope Cities Initiative.

Meanwhile, 1,100 solar systems and 32 mini-grids now power rural communities in the Northeast, improving energy access.

Modern Transport Hubs

Plans are underway for advanced transport terminals in each geopolitical zone.

These hubs will feature CNG stations, security posts, and sanitation facilities.

The Zaria transport institute now trains technicians in CNG vehicle conversion, supporting subsidy reforms.

Education and Collaboration

The abandoned Federal University of Transportation in Daura has been revived with NUC mentorship.

Alkali urged Northern leaders to support ongoing projects, stressing Tinubu’s commitment to nationwide development.

Strategic Road Developments

Works Minister of State Bello Goronyo highlighted the Sokoto-Zaria Highway’s reconstruction, with four contractors handling different sections.

Over 24km of reinforced concrete is complete, and multiple bridges are under construction.

Tinubu’s actively driving a significant infrastructure push across Northern Nigeria, focusing on expanding railways, roads, housing, and energy projects.

As a result, the region is experiencing a transformative phase, which directly boosts economic development and regional connectivity.

Furthermore, with consistent investment and collaboration among government agencies and private partners, sustainable growth becomes increasingly achievable.

Consequently, these efforts are aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s promises, aiming to uplift Northern Nigeria’s economic prospects.
