The Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in five local government areas.

This intervention aims to provide relief to victims of attacks in affected communities, ensuring access to basic food supplies.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, the distribution took place on Friday, with SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Sunday Abdu, overseeing the process.

He was represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Mr. Ashoms Azi, during the event.

Abdu revealed that the food items were donated by the Bank of Industry (BOI).

He explained that Governor Caleb Mutfwang sought assistance from organizations to support displaced persons in the state.

According to Abdu, the welfare of IDPs remains a key priority for the government.

He assured that efforts would continue to provide relief materials and essential support to those affected.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that IDPs receive adequate assistance during their displacement.

Mr. Ayuba Matawal, Chairman of the IDPs Welfare Committee, received the relief items on behalf of displaced persons in Bokkos.

He expressed gratitude for the intervention and assured that the items would be fairly distributed.

Mr. Luka Philip, an IDP in Bokkos, appreciated the relief materials provided.

He commended the Plateau State Government for its continuous support.

DDM News reports that other LGAs benefitting from the distribution include Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bassa.

The relief items distributed consisted of bags of rice and other essential food condiments.

These supplies aim to sustain displaced families facing hardship.

Despite the intervention, many IDPs still long to return to their ancestral homes.

They have lived in camps or temporary settlements for an extended period.

Hon. Amaechi Okoro questions the Plateau State and Federal Governments about plans for resettling displaced persons.

He calls on SEMA and government authorities to outline their plans for safe resettlement.

Providing food relief is commendable, but it does not solve the long-term crisis of displacement.

Okoro criticized the government’s apparent lack of urgency in addressing the root causes of the crisis.

He noted that food distribution is only a temporary solution.

He emphasized that insecurity and destruction of homes must be addressed.

“The people of Plateau State deserve to return to their ancestral lands with adequate security guarantees,” Okoro stated.

He insisted that providing food aid is not enough without a resettlement plan.

The government must take concrete steps to restore safety in affected communities.

He urged the federal government to collaborate with security agencies.

Efforts should be intensified to restore peace in troubled areas.

According to Okoro, lasting peace is the only real solution to the IDP crisis.

The displacement crisis in Plateau State has persisted for years.

Relief efforts have provided temporary support, but long-term solutions are needed.

Stakeholders must address critical issues such as security and rebuilding homes.

Basic infrastructure must be restored to enable reintegration into communities.

IDPs deserve more than temporary relief; they need a clear path back to their homes.

The government must collaborate with agencies and security operatives.

Humanitarian organizations should also be involved in providing long-term solutions.

IDPs in Plateau State await concrete government action.

The food items will provide temporary sustenance but do not resolve their core issues.

Their ultimate hope is for a safe and dignified return home.

Will the government deliver on its responsibility?

Or will these displaced citizens continue to live in uncertainty?
