Ifeanyi Ejiofor, former lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has criticized the lawyers who took over Kanu’s case, saying their “amateur legal showmanship” and focus on “social-media theatrics” led to his life imprisonment sentence for terrorism charges.
Ejiofor, who represented Kanu for over 10 years before withdrawing in 2024, claims the new team lacked legal depth, derailing a promising defense built on strategic diplomacy and airtight legal maneuvers.
In a statement, Ejiofor alleged that sensitive information was leaked to these “clueless clowns,” causing contradictions that prosecutors exploited.
“Instead of crafting a legal strategy, they crafted Instagram stories. Instead of mastering case law, they mastered camera angles,” he said.
He urged for a reset, emphasizing competence and reduced publicity to salvage the situation.
“This is not the time for comedy. It’s time for real advocacy,” Ejiofor added.
