The Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, foiled a robbery attempt on the Odogbolu corridor of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway early Sunday morning.

A statement from the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), confirmed the incident and provided details of the operation.

According to him, Amotekun operatives engaged the armed robbers in a fierce gun battle, leading to the death of one suspect, Diaspora digital media (DDM) reported

During the operation, one of the criminals, identified as Amechie Okoro, was arrested after a gunfight with the security team.

Following his capture, Okoro led Amotekun operatives to the gang’s hideout, where another suspect, who had initially escaped, was apprehended.

The Corps Commander stated that the gang had been responsible for a series of robberies along the expressway, terrorizing motorists and commuters.

During interrogation, Okoro confessed that he had been released from Ikoyi Prison just a week before his arrest.

Another suspect, Micheal Oko, revealed that he was introduced to the gang by their leader, identified as Awuha.

The security agency recovered several items from the arrested criminals, including a motorcycle with Lagos registration number KTU 668.

Other recovered items included twelve mobile phones, two locally-made pistols, a sum of ₦113,050, a silver wristwatch, and a red headphone.

Brigadier General Adedigba disclosed that the two suspects had different backgrounds but came together for criminal activities.

Investigations showed that Micheal Oko hails from Anambra State but resides at No. 3 Olufuwa Street, Ago Iwoye.

Meanwhile, Amechie Okoro, originally from Onitsha, Anambra State, had been living in the Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos, before his imprisonment.

The body of the dead suspect was later evacuated by the police.

The arrested suspects have been handed over to Amotekun operatives for further interrogation before their transfer to the police for prosecution.

Brigadier General Adedigba reassured residents that Amotekun remains committed to ensuring safety on Ogun State highways.

He emphasized that security personnel would continue to patrol and protect motorists against criminal elements.

He also urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to Amotekun or other security agencies for prompt action.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore confidence in road travel across the state.

With the success of this latest operation, Amotekun has once again demonstrated its capability in tackling highway robbery.

Authorities have warned criminals to steer clear of Ogun State, as security agencies are fully prepared to deal with any threats.
