Anambra 2017: APC determined to stop Obiano – Ngige
*Says Obi, Obiano yet to match his achievements as governor
Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige has said that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led Anambra state administration of ex-governor Peter Obi and the incumbent Gov Willie Obiano have not matched the achievements of his 34 -month governorship in the state.
The minister who spoke to journalists in his Alor country home yesterday therefore believed that an All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state would do so much better for the electorates.
According to him, “APC will be in serious contention for the office of governor next year because we are determined to take over the Government House because we will do better.
But he declined comment on whether he would be among the line-up of sure bets for the governorship contest, come 2017.
Hear him, “…it is too early to begin to talk about whether one will contest or not since the election is coming up next year.
“By the Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act, the governorship election will take place perhaps, in December next year.
“Before then, the marshal plan APC has for Nigeria would have been on ground properly as we believe that will help us during the campaigns.
“For now, anybody who is saying he is campaigning for the governorship is only wasting his time as there is still enough time for that.
He believed that with the Obi and Obiano’s achievements put together in comparison to his performance as governor between 2003 and 2006, his APC party would be in good stead for the race.
The Labour Minister described his governorship record as unbeatable.
He noted too that, “even when they tried to do multiplicity of roads, their roads have collapsed, while the ones I did are still in perfect conditions.
“Even the handover of schools they are priding themselves about was started by me because I was the person that signed the Memorandum of Understanding with religious leaders in the state and handed over 37 schools on paper before we left office.
“If they had followed my agricultural road map, Anambra State would have been feeding the whole south east with rice by now.
“If I were to be governor today, I won’t be going to Abuja for money because our state would have been self-sufficient.
“I will get the required license and begin mining of some minerals in the state”, Ngige stated.
Ngige, as the governor of Anambra State had faced what was described as the worst form of fratricidal political war within his own People’s Democratic Party (PDP) then, in 2003.
It consequently led to his ouster vide the Court of Appeal tribunal on March 15, 2006.
He was then replaced by Peter Obi.
