Awka-Etiti community in Idemili South council of Anambra state has cautioned one of her illustrious sons, Chief Chuma Angus Ojukwu, son of a one time traditional ruler, Igwe Joachim Okwudili Ojukwu from Nkolofia village who was reportedly been laying claim to the throne.
The word of caution says that his moves carries dire penalty both in Awka-Etiti and in the relevant laws of the state.
He was therefore urged in his own interest to retrace his steps before it becomes too late.

The community had frowned t a recent publication in two national dailies “credited to one Mr. Chuma Angus Ojukwu to have been laying claim of being the Igwe (traditional ruler)and Obi of Awka-etiti on the ground that the traditional institution in the community operates a dynasty.”

Hence that he was quoted to have faulted the emergence of Igwe Michael Ezeudenna as the incumbent Obi of Awka-etiti and further accused the Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano of instigating crisis in the community by issuing certificate of recognition to Igwe Ezeudenna.
The Secretary of the Igwe –In –Council of Awka Etiti, Ichie Ebele Enemuo noted that “the claim of the young man, Angus Ojukwu has no substance and cannot stand on its feet in Awka Etiti”.

Ichie Enemuo noted that Awka Etiti was comprised of seven(7) villages namely, in the order of seniority: Nkolofia, Umunocha, Ejighinandu, Iruowele, Umudunu, Nnaba and Ogunzele, amongst whom the traditional rulership stool rotates in order of seniority as inculcated in the 1999 community Resolution, that was subsequently infused in the 2004 constitution of  Awka-Etiti. That this popular arrangement was well received and had been adhered to by all.

He further chronicled that Awka Etiti has never had Igwe until 1950s when the then government started recognizing traditional rulers across the Eastern region. It was In lieu of that development that Chief Silas Ezenwa from Iruowele village became the first elected Igwe of the community. He was installed and coronated in 1957, which according him, triggered off disturbances and was only resolved through the 1999 resolution of Awka Etiti, signed on 25th April, 1999 .

He said, “ Igwe Silas Ezenwa died on October 11th, 2003 and his final Offala was celebrated in 2005 coupled with one year mourning according to the tradition of the Awka Etiti.

“After his death, the community decided to commence the implementation the 1999 resolution as earlier agreed and documented. The resolution had amongst other things stated that “the traditional stool of Awka etiti shall rotate among the seven villages in Awka-etiti in order of seniority”. To that effect, Nkolofia village, the most senior among the seven villages presented Chief Joachim Okwudili Ojukwu as the Igwe and Obi of Awka Etiti, after all requirements were met and was coronated on April 26,2008.

“After the death of Igwe Joachin Okwudili Ojukwu in 2013 and all rites and tradition of the community concerning late Igwe were completed, it was the turn of Umunocha to produce the next Igwe, they went through the normal processes and Engr. Michael Ezeudenna emerged Igwe-elect”.

Ichi Enemuo further stated that Igwe Michael Ezeudenna having beaten his opponents in the election also met and fulfilled all other requirements including presentation of Igwe-elect to the, town union,  seven villages in Awka-etiti, Local Government Council and state government before his installation by the good people of Awka Etiti community and the subsequent reception of Certificate of Recognition given to him by the Anambra State government on November 2,2016.

Ichie Enemuo insists that there was no confusion whatsoever in the community concerning the traditional institution. He therefore advised Chuma Ojukwu to wait for the turn of his village, if he wants to be Igwe, subject to whether his villager and people of Awka-Etiti want him. He insisted that the long arms of the law would soon catch up with any impostor as, “the evidences of his impersonation abound and nobody is above the law.”

Some village chairmen-Ikechukwu Igwe of Iruowele village and Robert Ekwelum of Nnaba village respectively, said that Chuma Ojukwu was deceived by some unscrupulous cabals in the community into believing that he is a crown prince because of his ignorance of the constitution of Awka-etiti, 2004.
