Anambra declares Saturday sanitation day ahead of 35th anniversary

The Anambra State Government has declared Saturday, August 22, 2026, as a compulsory environmental sanitation day across the state as the exercise is part of activities to mark the state’s 35th anniversary.

The state Ministry of Environment said movement would be restricted from 7am to 10am on Saturday, with only people on emergency and essential duties exempted.

The ministry also directed markets across the state to carry out clean-up exercises on Thursday and Friday, August 20 and 21.

Local Government Chairmen and Presidents-General of communities have been directed to ensure compliance with the sanitation exercise and the evacuation of waste from their areas.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Clem Aguiyi, urged residents to participate in the exercise and help keep the state clean and healthy.
