A police corporal lost his life following an attack by gunmen on Oba police divisional headquarters and the nearby Oba Civic Centre in Anambra State on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the gunmen during the attack started firing sporadically as they attempted to breach the police station.

In their aggressive assault, they also threw petrol bombs at the facility, igniting fire that spread to several offices, including those at the Oba Civic Centre.

Though, despite the valiant efforts of police officers on duty and a Joint Security response team, the corporal sustained fatal injuries which resulted to his unfortunate death.

CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State has condemned the attack, noting that the invasion of security facilities and violence against law enforcement officers is an affront to the nation.

He stressed the need for justice, vowing to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are arrested and held accountable.

Meanwhile, this incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and order in the region.

The police are now investigating the attack and have called for community support in identifying and capturing the criminal elements.
