AWKA, NIGERIA — The Anambra State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state, conducting coordinated raids and bush-combing exercises in identified flashpoints and suspected criminal hideouts as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities and improve public safety.
The operations are being carried out by joint security teams comprising police personnel, operatives from other security agencies and members of the Agunechemba security outfit.
According to reports from the command, the exercise is being led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo.
The ongoing operations involve systematic searches of identified forests, bushes and other locations suspected to be used as hideouts by criminal groups.
The security teams are targeting areas believed to provide safe havens for kidnappers, armed robbers and other individuals involved in violent criminal activities.
The exercise forms part of the command’s intelligence-driven security strategy aimed at identifying criminal camps, disrupting suspected criminal networks and preventing offenders from regrouping or relocating to other areas.
The police said the operations were designed to deny criminal elements access to locations where they could plan or coordinate attacks against residents and communities.
The coordinated approach also reflects the involvement of multiple security formations in tackling insecurity across the state. By working together, the agencies aim to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve operational coverage and respond more effectively to security threats.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain the operations against criminal activities.
He said the ongoing exercise was not a one-off operation but part of a broader security strategy intended to consolidate existing gains, protect lives and property, and restore public confidence.
The commissioner maintained that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration and sustained security operations until criminal activities were effectively curtailed.
He also assured residents that security operatives would maintain their presence across the state to enable people to go about their lawful activities without fear, intimidation or threats to their safety.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Awka.
The command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying criminal elements and preventing security breaches.
Residents were encouraged to cooperate with security personnel and report suspicious movements or activities through appropriate channels.
The latest offensive comes amid continuing efforts by security agencies to address kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in Anambra.
The police said the joint operations would be sustained as part of efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts and strengthen security across communities in the state.
