MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA — Former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance in office and the ruling party’s mobilisation efforts will help secure his re-election in 2027.
Yari gave the assurance while speaking with journalists in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he accompanied President Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians for the Muslim lesser pilgrimage, known as Umrah.
The senator said the APC Presidential Campaign Council was committed to presenting the administration’s achievements to Nigerians and persuading voters to support Tinubu for a second term.
His remarks followed the President’s declaration during a media interaction in Saudi Arabia that he had enormous faith in God regarding his chances of securing another term in office.
Tinubu had said that the outcome of the election ultimately rested with God, expressing his belief that divine will would determine who would lead the country.
Reacting to the President’s comments, Yari described reliance on God as an important attribute of leadership. He said Tinubu had demonstrated this faith by praying for Nigeria and its citizens before speaking about his personal political ambition.
According to Yari, the President’s faith, combined with his administration’s record and the activities of the campaign organisation, would strengthen the party’s efforts to win public support.
He maintained that the campaign council would not rely solely on political mobilisation but would also engage Nigerians directly, explain government policies and highlight what the administration considers its achievements.
Yari said the campaign team intended to visit communities, speak with different groups and convince voters through discussions about the government’s performance and future plans.
He expressed confidence that these efforts, with God’s guidance, would persuade Nigerians to renew Tinubu’s mandate.
The former governor also recalled the role of divine intervention in Tinubu’s emergence as President in the 2023 general election, saying he believed the same would happen in the forthcoming contest.
Yari currently heads the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which was constituted ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The council is responsible for coordinating the ruling party’s campaign activities and building support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The campaign organisation has identified the administration’s policies, infrastructure projects and development priorities as major issues it intends to present to the electorate.
However, the President’s re-election bid comes amid public debate over the effects of his economic reforms, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to foreign exchange policy. While the government has defended the measures as necessary for long-term economic stability, Nigerians continue to contend with concerns about living costs and economic hardship.
The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, and will provide voters with an opportunity to assess the records and proposals of the competing candidates.
Yari reiterated that the APC campaign council would continue its engagement with Nigerians as it seeks support for Tinubu’s re-election.
