Death toll in Anambra State palliatives distribution stampede has risen to 22.
This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the spokesman of Anambra Police Command, Tochuwku Ikenga.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday at an event organized by a philanthropist identified as Obi Jackson in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra to distribute relief materials to poor residents.
Ikenga revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam had visited the hospital where injured victims are receiving treatment.
“The Commissioner sympathized with the families and friends of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery,” Ikenga stated.
He also noted that investigations into the cause of the stampede are ongoing, stressing the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety throughout the festive season.
