Anambra to distributes N1b agriculture loan to women, others

*Anambra now produces 210,000 metric tons of rice, exports agric produce to Europe

The Anambra State Government is to distribute a total of One billion naira (N1 billion) as Agricultural loan to farmers during this farming season.

Gov Willie Obiano disclosed this when he played host to a delegation from the state’s Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC.

IPAC called on him at the Governor’s Lodge, Awka, today.

He said the money will be distributed at the launch of the 2016 Farming Season in the State.

According to him, beneficiaries of the loan have emerged through a rigorous selection process, with 60% of the population being women.

He also disclosed that as part of its robust plan to support the farmers, his administration had done massive land preparation free of charge for them.

Also, improved seedlings worth N250 million have also been provided for them.

Gov Obiano noted that due to his administration’s huge investment in the Agriculture sector, the State is now producing 210,000 metric tons of rice as against its initial capacity of 80,000 metric tons and is also exporting vegetable and other agric produce to Europe.

He explained that his government had upon inception, identified and adopted Agriculture as the way to go especially in view of the dwindling Oil fortunes globally.

He added that it is the vision of his administration through its interventionist initiatives to boost the production capacity of the state’s  farmers for increased economic prosperity.
