(DDM) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded major progress in uploading results from the ongoing Anambra State governorship election, with over 72 percent of polling unit results now visible on the official IReV portal as of Saturday evening.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the results being uploaded reflect early trends showing strong performances from the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) across multiple local government areas, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) maintains moderate presence in rural polling units.
At Polling Unit 013, Ward 05, Omasi, Ayamelum Local Government Area, the Labour Party candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, secured 73 votes, while APGA, the ruling party in the state, garnered 50 votes.
The APC candidate received 33 votes, and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) recorded 7 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) managed only 2 votes.
Observers at the scene confirmed that the voting process was largely peaceful, with only minor cases of delay due to the BVAS device malfunction in some areas. INEC officials later resolved the issues and continued with the accreditation and voting.
The speed of the result upload to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) has been described as faster and more transparent compared to the 2021 Anambra governorship election, which faced delays in electronic transmission.
Election monitors and civil society groups, including Yiaga Africa and the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), commended INEC for maintaining the pace of result uploads, urging the Commission to sustain transparency until the final collation at the state headquarters in Awka.
Meanwhile, excitement spread among Labour Party supporters after reports indicated that their candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, was leading in several polling units in Nnewi North, Onitsha South, and parts of Aguata, believed to be APGA strongholds.
However, supporters of Governor Charles Soludo, who is seeking re-election under APGA, expressed confidence that results from rural wards and strong base areas would balance the figures before the final declaration.
Political analysts told DDM that the high voter turnout, especially among youths and first-time voters, could significantly influence the final outcome.
They noted that Anambra’s political landscape has shifted in recent years, with many voters demanding accountability and improved local governance.
As collation continues, all eyes remain on the INEC state headquarters in Awka, where the final results will be officially declared.
