Ancient Russian volcano explodes after earthquake shakes far east
DDM News

A massive earthquake that recently struck Russia’s Far East may have triggered the first eruption of the Krasheninnikov Volcano in over six centuries.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered from multiple Russian sources that scientists are now investigating the link between the tremor and the historic volcanic activity.
The Krasheninnikov Volcano, located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, erupted overnight, sending ash into the sky and ending a dormant period that lasted approximately 600 years.
Olga Girina, head of the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team, confirmed that this is the first historically recorded eruption of Krasheninnikov since the 15th century.
She explained that the last known lava flow from the volcano occurred around 1463, with a possible margin of error of 40 years.
No eruption has been officially confirmed since that time, making this event a rare and potentially tectonically induced phenomenon.
Girina also suggested that the eruption could be directly linked to Wednesday’s powerful earthquake that affected a wide region of the Pacific.
The tremor was so strong that tsunami warnings were issued as far away as French Polynesia and Chile.
Soon after the quake, another volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Klyuchevskoy, known as the most active in the region, also erupted.
This has prompted geologists to consider a regional seismic-volcanic connection that may have reawakened dormant geological structures.
The Krasheninnikov Volcano, which stands 1,856 meters tall, is not located near densely populated areas.
Following the eruption, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Services recorded an ash plume rising as high as 6,000 meters, or about 3.7 miles into the sky.
