Spiritualist and social media personality Angela Nwosu has responded to a fan who questioned her decision to spend her money on a luxury car for her husband instead of using the funds to empower people in Nigeria.
Nwosu recently made headlines after surprising her husband, Austin Nnaemeka, with a brand-new 2026 Cadillac Escalade for his birthday. A video of the moment the luxury SUV was presented to him circulated online, with her husband visibly excited by the surprise.
The grand birthday gesture, however, also attracted criticism from some social media users.
Responding to one of the messages, Nwosu questioned why she should be expected to use her personal money to address wider societal problems simply because she chose to buy her husband an expensive gift.
“I used my hard-earned money to buy my husband his dream car, and you’re telling me I should have used the money to empower people in Nigeria when I’m not even the government. Am I the federal government?” she said.
The response came after the fan apparently criticised the amount spent on the Cadillac and suggested that the money could have been used to empower people.
Nwosu’s husband received the vehicle as part of a series of birthday surprises from his wife. Reports on the celebration said the couple’s followers were treated to footage of his reaction when the luxury SUV was unveiled.
The social media personality has also shared other moments from the celebration, including footage of her husband driving the new Cadillac Escalade and posts showing additional birthday gifts.
Nwosu and Austin have been married since 2019 and regularly share aspects of their family life with their followers.
Her response to the criticism has now added another layer to the conversation surrounding the expensive birthday gift, with the debate shifting from the luxury vehicle itself to whether public figures should be expected to direct their personal wealth towards social causes.
For Nwosu, however, the matter appears straightforward: she described the money used to purchase the vehicle as her “hard-earned money” and maintained that she should be free to decide how to spend it.
