AON Eyes Comfort Emmanson as Passenger Conduct Ambassador

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has revealed that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) is considering a unique ambassadorial role for Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger who recently faced legal action over alleged unruly behaviour.

In a statement on Wednesday, Keyamo explained that the operators are exploring the option of appointing Emmanson as an “ambassador for good passenger conduct” following her release from Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

“Ms. Comfort Emmanson has shown remorse for her actions, and AON is evaluating how she could help promote proper passenger behaviour in airlines,” he said.

Emmanson, who was discharged after a Lagos Magistrate struck out the five-count charge against her, expressed relief following her release.

She had been accused of assaulting a flight attendant and acting in a confrontational manner with airport security at Lagos airport.

The charges were withdrawn after the airline and complainant indicated they no longer wished to pursue the matter.

Keyamo stressed that the ambassadorial role is voluntary and not a paid position. “This is akin to community service,” he said.

“It is an opportunity for repentant individuals to educate the public against the conduct they have repented from. It does not come with any perks of office.”

The minister also addressed concerns surrounding similar appointments, noting that the Federal Government had earlier engaged Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, in a comparable role after an airport incident.

“We have been fair to all parties,” Keyamo said.

Emmanson’s alleged misconduct sparked widespread attention, particularly after a video circulated showing her in a compromising position during the incident.

Keyamo condemned the leak and confirmed that the Federal Government had directed action against the Ibom Air officials responsible.

While condemning her previous actions, the minister highlighted that this initiative aligns with global best practices, where repentant offenders can take on roles promoting public education on proper conduct.

He also emphasized that such interventions have occurred in Nigeria before and are likely to continue.

As Emmanson begins a new chapter, the aviation sector hopes her potential role as an ambassador will foster awareness and encourage proper behaviour among passengers nationwide.
