AKURE, ONDO STATE – A House of Representatives aspirant for Ilaje/Ese Odo Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election, calling for a fresh exercise.
The aspirant, Monday Akinyomi, expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the primary election held to select the party’s flagbearer for the federal constituency ahead of future legislative contests.
He alleged irregularities in the process and insisted that the exercise did not reflect the will of party members in the constituency.
The All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Congress, conducted the primary as part of its internal procedures to select candidates for the upcoming election cycle.
Akinyomi maintained that the credibility of the exercise had been compromised, urging the party leadership to intervene and organise a fresh and transparent election.
He argued that only a properly conducted primary would restore confidence among delegates and party stakeholders in the constituency.
The aspirant further called on the party’s national leadership to ensure strict adherence to internal democratic guidelines in resolving disputes arising from the primaries.
Political observers note that disputes over primary elections are common within Nigerian political parties, often leading to internal disagreements and legal challenges.
Analysts say such conflicts, if not properly managed, can affect party unity and electoral performance during general elections.
In Ondo State, political competition within the APC has remained intense, particularly in constituencies with strong aspirants and competing political interests.
Party stakeholders are expected to review complaints arising from the primary as part of efforts to maintain stability and cohesion ahead of future elections.
Supporters of the aspirant have also echoed calls for transparency, urging party leadership to address grievances to avoid further division.
The APC leadership has not yet issued an official response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
As political activities continue to build toward the next election cycle, attention remains focused on how internal party disputes will be resolved across various constituencies.
Observers say the handling of such disputes will play a key role in shaping party unity and electoral strength going forward.
