Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has outlived its usefulness and must be removed from power for Nigeria to have any real chance at national recovery.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Baba-Ahmed made the explosive statement during a recent interview in which he accused the APC of pushing the country into unprecedented levels of hardship, insecurity, and hopelessness.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the situation in the country under the APC-led administration has deteriorated so badly that even members of the ruling party can no longer justify its performance.
“Nigerians don’t have a choice, APC must go. Even APC does not have a choice, APC must go,” he stated emphatically.
The Labour Party chieftain criticized the ruling party for what he described as years of misrule, broken promises, and economic sabotage.
He stressed that the party has failed to deliver on all fronts and should be voted out by Nigerians at the next available opportunity.
The APC came into power in 2015, ending the 16-year reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid promises of change, anti-corruption, and economic revival.
However, critics argue that the nation’s economic and security situation has only worsened over the last decade.
Baba-Ahmed, a former Senator and staunch advocate for electoral reforms and accountability, accused APC leaders of abandoning the people and governance in pursuit of personal interests.
“Where was Ganduje last week? Where is he today? Nigerian politicians don’t have a choice, APC must go,” he questioned, referencing the current APC National Chairman whose leadership has come under intense scrutiny.
He further stated that Nigerians across all walks of life, farmers, traders, industrialists, transporters, youths, and civil servants, are suffering under the weight of inflation, insecurity, and a rapidly devaluing naira.
“Spenders of the naira, industrialists, tradespeople, market women and men, farmers, transporters, the youths—nobody has a choice in Nigeria. APC must go,” he reiterated.
Political analysts believe Baba-Ahmed’s remarks reflect a growing sense of frustration among Nigerians, who are grappling with high food prices, unemployment, kidnappings, and a weakening currency.
His comments come amid a series of protests, union strikes, and calls for a national reset, especially as the country prepares for local government and gubernatorial elections in various states.
Many observers see Baba-Ahmed as a rising opposition voice who represents the frustrations of the Nigerian masses, especially the youth who powered the Labour Party’s momentum in the 2023 elections.
As economic hardship deepens and political dissatisfaction grows, Baba-Ahmed’s message may resonate with an increasing number of Nigerians seeking a genuine alternative to the status quo.
