(DDM) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that its existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee (NWC) positions will remain in effect ahead of the party’s 2026 National Convention.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) notes that in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the decision aims to guide aspirants and maintain stability within the party as internal elections approach.
According to the statement, the zoning formula outlined in the published 2026 Schedule of Nationwide Congresses, National Convention, and Related Activities will continue to govern the selection of NWC positions.
“The existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee positions across states within the geo-political zones remains valid and applicable to the upcoming National Convention,” the statement said.
The party also advised aspirants seeking national offices to strictly comply with the zoning framework when obtaining and submitting their Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
“Accordingly, aspirants are advised to be STRICTLY GUIDED by the existing zoning arrangement,” Morka emphasized.
The APC noted that upholding the zoning structure is essential to ensure fairness, balance, and orderliness during the party’s internal processes ahead of the convention.
Party officials say the reaffirmation of the zoning policy seeks to prevent disputes and promote unity among members as the convention approaches.
Observers note that adherence to the zoning arrangement has historically been a key factor in mitigating internal tensions within Nigeria’s political parties, especially during leadership transitions.
The 2026 National Convention is expected to set the stage for the APC’s leadership structure and influence party strategy in the run-up to future elections.
