THE APC STINKS: “A JOB FOR THE BOYS”

President Buhari was finally bold to look inside the APC cesspool. He always knew it was there. He simply thought as his grip on power increased most things would sort themselves out. He did not count on the intransigence of the Corruption he touted to eradicate.

The persistent stench from his stable could not be ignored. He turned around to look.  He did not like what he saw, smelt, or worse – the electoral implications.

The reeking eyesore. This was just not the abattoir dump. More frightening were the human organs in the discarded animal remains. Head, shoulders, hearts, arms, feet in plain sight. Anathema. They weren’t supposed to be there. How did it come it to this?

It came to this because the man at the helm pretended to play a hear no evil, see no evil regime of his administration staff. It came to this because Nigeria and Nigerian politicians refuse to play effective opposition politics. Nobody liked to be harassed in the name of going against Government policy.

It came to this because the PDP looked in the mirror and saw themselves. They had become APC with a hushed promise of continued chopping. There was no argument. They simply stepped over, and were welcomed. The APC had become PDP without President Jonathan.

Those who dine with the Devil have always been advised to use a long fork, or spoon. Someone forgot theirs at Daura.

These dinner invitees were not the original ones on the First Lady – Aisha Buhari’s list. No wonder she screamed, “Who are these people?”, as her Husband looked in another direction. He had waited 30 years to get back to this table. Nobody, no matter how odious, was going to push him away.

But the dinner guests were never ones to be questioned on their personal hygiene or etiquette. They did not care. They had always presented themselves this way to every dinner party. And were always welcomed to the most exclusive corners. Nothing was different about this one.

“A job for the boys.”

That phrase should have warned the President. His then Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF) did not take the report of a National Conference convened by his immediate predecessor seriously. One must concede that every administration has its priorities.

But the SGF – the point man in Government policy execution simply dismissed a 6 weeks meeting of diverse elite from different Nigerian Geo-political zones into thin air.

To Alhaji Babachir Lawal,  the conference and report didn’t pass muster. Bolaji Akinyemi was beside himself. He could not believe what he heard. “A job for the boys”. He muttered in disbelief.

N2 billion Naira had been spent hosting representative Nigerians to speak their mind on the way forward. But for one Alhaji Babachir Lawal in Nigeria, it was another avenue to share the money. If others did not know, He knew.

Convening over 492 Nigerians and asking their opinions on the way forward for Nigeria was a way to let off National steam. Calm the boys down. Give them something which seems meaningful to do, while the ‘chopping’ continues.

“This is Nigeria. We know Nigeria. So, please calm down.” He seemed to say. At the APGA THINK-TANK, it is our opinion that some people truly know Nigeria. Whether their knowledge is to Nigeria’s benefit is another matter.

“A job for the boys.”

Yes. This is Nigeria. Nothing meaningful ever happens despite the best intentions of any Government. And if the boys are kept happy, nothing meaningful will ever happen. And 492 people shared then 2 billion Naira, and arrived at some form of national conciliation and consensus while letting off steam.

As at last week, only 2 people from the APC Government ranks were surreptitiously being linked to $38 million dollars. The equivalent of N2 billion Naira.

A job for 2 boys, so far.

At the APGA THINK-TANK, we’ll take the 492 boys, anyday.

The Intelligence report on the President’s desk could no longer be ignored. Something reeked here, and from the core of the APC Presidency. This called for a specialized excision. The President ordered the artist knife last week and began the surgery, severing a main artery.

The Secretary to the Federal Government was suspended from office. Following in the wake was the head of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). (What Intelligence were they really gathering anyway?). Some bloodletting had begun. The President ordered a temporary clip, and called for for a back-up transfusion.

The boys suddenly had no jobs.

Dr. Bola Akinyemi sighed. What goes around….

The APC itself had become the face of endemic corruption. The Party tried all it could to clean the scene before any post-mortem. The stain and stench were strong. Too strong. Evidence was also in the public square. Too plain a view.

$38 million dollars cannot easily be erased from the public psyche. You cannot hide mint $38 million dollars. No.

At the APGA THINK-TANK, NIGERIA, it is our opinion that a clueless APC Government finally came to terms with what Nigerians had known all along.

The APC Government had no plans for Nigeria other than to shout an old refrain – Corruption, Indiscipline, Unity. This Government lacked any plan, method to move Nigeria forward. Unfortunately for APC, Nigerians stopped listening to Lai Mohammed’s recurrent yelps ‘eons’ ago.

The APGA Think-Tank Nigeria warned that this APC administration was learning on the job, and that Nigeria had outgrown that. The APC had self-righteously shouted “Ole” to get the electorate’s attention, and disperse the earlier miscreants.

They however forgot that the electorate was still assembled watching what was being done with the left over loot. Desperate politicians never make excellent administrators. They never follow any guidelines in their desperation. They simply create more desperation. And here we are.

Shocking Nigerians with how much individuals were stealing from their Trust does not a plan make. $5 million dollars here, N100 million Naira there, $34 million Dollars, Pounds…

And how did all that recovery aid improve the Nigerian populace welfare in Housing, Power, Public Health, Education, skill acquisition, trade and commerce? Nothing.

Rather at the core, the APC continues its insidious harassment of the Nigerian Psyche.  Almost Fifty years after the Nigerian Civil war, A Nigerian Government continues to threaten Nigerians in the Name of National Unity unleashing Soldiers on ordinary Nigerian citizenry in the Name of “Python Dance”.

Pythons do not dance. Nobody mistakes that forward snake wriggling motion for a curtsy proposition, or performance art. It is a move to a Kill. Period. Snakes and their terminology bode ill will. The President would however not hesitate to unleash them on a section of the electorate.

This is because they either did not vote for his APC Party or the animus from over fifty years ago, when the President and his ethnic group fought against that section of the electorate.

This Government has failed woefully in instituting methods to re-assure Nigerians of their shared national trust in trade, economics, infrastructure building, education, etc.

While the rank administrative echelon demonstrates Nepotism, and does not care the huge segment of the Nigerian society it offends, senior officers of Government have been reduced to spectators.

It is difficult to hear any Government official make any pronouncement on policy to move the nation forward. We are back to a quasi-military dictatorship. All await orders from the top, and none may move without concrete nod. Pity!

Our democracy is being reduced to a One-Party state. The formidable PDP has been reduced to a shell of itself. The unfortunate truth is that the PDP was a strong institution in personalities only. Their absence from Government has exposed them for truly lacking any policy depth in pursuing the affairs of the nation.

If they had one, this administration provides enough fodder for opposition publicity despite the PDP’s internal crisis. Other parties which should pick up the opposition mantle are clearly afraid of playing opposition for fear of harassment and beat down. Whither the 4th republic?

Like a prominent political player in the current dispensation would say, “When you do business with a hungry man, his first instinct is to feed his stomach properly.”

In Nigeria, we are all still hungry. It does not matter the Party or leadership. There is pure hunger in the land. Emotional, Physical, Spiritual. People need to be fed.

Unfortunately, those admitted into the pantry are hungry themselves. They have to eat first. Screw the lofty ideals. That is our dilemma. It is not ending anytime soon.

Nigerian democracy needs to be saved. Not by this set of Hungry men.
