Appeal Court upholds Ikpeazu’s governorship [Update]

Appeal Court upheld election of Ikpeazu as the governor of Abia State; an Abuja Court had sacked Ikpeazu, awarding Certificate of Return to Uche Ogah

The Appeal Court has upheld the election of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as the rightful governor of Abia State.

It could be recalled that an Abuja Court had sacked Ikpeazu and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] to issue Certificate of Return to the plaintiff, Uche Ogah.

Rejecting the judgement, Ikpeazu had appealed the case which was overturned today at the appellate court.

The Appeal Court judgement was read by Justice Philomena Ekpe.

It set aside the judgement of Justice Okon Abang of Federal High Court Abuja positing that it had no business to entertain further application as the processes was not properly signed.

“From the above submission, the said issue is hereby resolved in view of the appellant against the first respondent.

“Consequently this appeal is deemed meritorious and it is hereby allowed,”

“The decision of the lower court delivered 28th July 2016 is hereby set aside and the cost of N100,000 is hereby awarded in favour of the appellant.”

While stakeholders congratulate Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, it beckons to wait and see if the legal fire work will proceed to Supreme Court. Also read this information and enjoy
