Argentina Designates Iran’s IRGC as Terrorist Organization

Argentina has officially declared Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, in a move that brings the country in line with long-standing U.S. policy.

The decision, announced by the presidential office on Tuesday, allows authorities to impose financial sanctions and other restrictions on the powerful Iranian force.

Argentina said the move is tied to the IRGC’s alleged support for Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based group it holds responsible for the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. The attack, the deadliest in the country’s history, killed 85 people and injured hundreds.

The IRGC is an elite branch of Iran’s military tasked with protecting the country’s Islamic system of governance. It also has deep influence across key sectors of Iran’s economy.

The United States and several other countries have already labeled both the IRGC and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations.

Argentina’s latest step is part of a broader shift under President Javier Milei toward closer alignment with Washington. Just days earlier, his government also designated Mexico’s Jalisco New Generation Cartel as a terrorist group.
