The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has once again assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is committed to the unity and indivisibility of the country, and would do everything possible to ensure that no part of the country is occupied by criminal elements.
He gave the assurance on Saturday, while giving remarks as the Reviewing Officer of the 59th Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria.
“I would like to assure all Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is committed to the unity and indivisibility of this country and would do everything humanly possible to ensure that no part of this country is occupied by criminal elements.
” We will continue to support the civil authority at ensuring that citizens of this country are free and protected in the performance of their legal businesses, ” he assured.
Speaking further, he said that the Army has been involved in the maintenance of internal security in addition to its constitutional role of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
“The escalating level of insecurity in the country has much to do with the level of training our children are exposed to from the beginning. Having an institution that will ensure that children are inculcated with a high level of discipline, knowledge and patriotism is what all stakeholders in the Nigerian project should encourage,” he emphasized.
Buratai whose speech was read by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, stressed that all training schools under the Army are provided with the basic facilities to ensure excellence and proficiency.
“I have given directives for deliberate efforts to be taken for the purpose of repositioning our Command Schools in line with standards established by NMS,” he disclosed.
He explained that the NMS which was established 63 years ago to provide middle-level manpower to take over from departing British non commissioned officers has produced seasoned military officers if repute and experienced technocrats.
“It was in recognition of the contribution of Ex-Boys to the national development and upholding the dream and vision of founding fathers of the school that I directed that the resumption of military training suspended in 2011,” he informed.
He said that the Army management was aware of challenges facing the school and would do its best in providing necessary infrastructures to support training.
“I am aware that the commandant is resolute and maintained his resolve not to condone or spare any act of indiscipline in the school. We must get it right at this stage. I would also like to congratulate the commandants and his untiring team for the onerous job in the training of the boys into refined young soldiers of the Nigerian Army,” he added.
He also congratulated the passing out boys for presenting a colourful parade, while urging them to carry on with the sane spirit to their various units where they have been posted to.
