(DDM) – Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make their first signing of the January transfer window, targeting 20-year-old Spanish midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza from Elche, sources say.
The Premier League leaders, managed by Mikel Arteta, are balancing squad depth with injuries and the demands of competing on four fronts this season, including the Champions League.
Mendoza, a Spain youth international, has a £17million release clause, making him a viable option for Arteta to bolster central midfield.
The technical and creative midfielder is known for carrying the ball forward and taking on opponents. While still developing defensively, Mendoza is seen as a potential long-term solution in Arsenal’s midfield, possibly groomed into the club’s next No.10.
Express UK reports that repeated injuries in the first half of the season have pressured Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta to explore exceptional opportunities in the transfer market.
The left side of Arsenal’s attack has been identified as a weakness, despite strong performances from Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli this season.

Ben White provides cover but has struggled with fitness, leaving Timber as the main option at times. Read’s addition could offer depth and quality for the years ahead.
