AS Roma terminates contract with Jose Mourinho

AS Roma has confirmed that head coach Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff have departed from the club with immediate effect.

Jose Mourinho, who was appointed as the coach of Roma in May 2021, led the team to a victory in the Europa Conference League final a year later.

In the previous year, Roma and Mourinho also made it to the Europa League final, but unfortunately lost to Sevilla in a penalty shootout

Beaten 3-1 by AC Milan on Sunday, Roma is ninth in the Serie A table.

“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin, the club’s owners, in a statement.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours,” the statement adds.

Jose Mourinho is a renowned and accomplished manager in the sport, having coached prestigious teams such as Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Porto.

Jose Mourinho has won a total of 26 trophies throughout his managerial career, including the recent victory in the Europa Conference League with Roma.

He has also won two Champions Leagues, a Europa League, and a UEFA Cup.

Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Roma marked his second time working in Italy.

During his time as the coach of Inter Milan from 2008-2010, he led the team to an impressive treble, which included winning the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League.
