Atiku condemns APC threats against Peter Obi’s life
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the threat to Peter Obi’s life by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
He stated that Morka’s threat signaled a return to an authoritarian regime.
He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had become notorious for attacking and arresting dissenting voices.
In a statement on Tuesday, Atiku decried the APC government’s disdain for democracy and free speech.
He noted that the Labour Party chieftain never stated anything contrary to the hardships Nigerians face daily due to the current administration’s policies.
Atiku demanded that Morka explain his statement against Obi and issue a formal apology.
Abubakar highlighted the inflammatory remarks issued by APC’s Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, directed at Peter Obi.
He described these remarks as a disturbing emblem of the current administration’s unsettling strategy in addressing opposition figures.
Atiku stressed that such language, rooted in hostility, has no place in a free society.
Atiku called on Nigerians to intervene and demand an end to the persecution of dissenting voices by the current administration.
He emphasized that it is the duty of a democratic government to listen attentively to its critics and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Atiku urged the Bola Tinubu government to recalibrate its approach to dealing with dissent and opposition.
He recalled that social and political critic Mahdi Shehu remains in detention for expressing concerns about a French military base in Northern Nigeria.
He added that the continuous vilification of opposition figures by the Tinubu administration sets a dangerous precedent.
Atiku urged all men and women of goodwill to intervene and protect the health of Nigeria’s democracy.
