Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso Unfit to Defeat Tinubu, Says Pro-Jonathan Group

A pro-Jonathan group, Bring Back Our Goodluck (BBOG), has declared that leading opposition figures Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso lack the political strength and unity needed to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano on Sunday, August 24, BBOG’s National Coordinator, Dr. Grema Kyari, said that without a united opposition front, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will remain unbeatable.

Kyari criticised what he described as the “self-centered ambitions” of opposition heavyweights, warning that a repeat of the 2023 elections where divided votes among Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso paved the way for Tinubu’s victory would hand the APC another easy win.

He urged Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, and other influential opposition leaders to abandon personal ambitions and rally behind former President Goodluck Jonathan, whom he described as the only figure with the credibility, national appeal, and governance experience to challenge APC dominance.

“Until and unless Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, Kwankwaso and others jettison their selfish interests and support a competent and neutral candidate, the votes will be split again in 2027 in favour of the APC,” Kyari warned.

The group appealed directly to Jonathan to “heed the voice of the masses” and return to complete his second term, likening the potential comeback to Donald Trump’s return in the United States and John Mahama’s re-election bid in Ghana.

Kyari also accused Tinubu’s administration of worsening Nigeria’s hardships, citing hunger, failing businesses, deepening poverty, and escalating insecurity.

“Nigeria is bleeding economically, socially, and politically. Under Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, hardship has intensified, insecurity has worsened, and divisions have grown.

Nigerians are crying out for a leader who understands the weight of power, not one experimenting with our destiny,” he said.

The BBOG convener insisted that Jonathan’s return in 2027 would “rescue Nigeria from its current decline” and restore stability.
