2023 ADC presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu

Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has leveled serious accusations against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Mr. Kachikwu in a statement issued on Thursday, said Atiku has consistently worked against the shift of presidential power to the southern region of Nigeria.

He claimed Atiku nearly blocked former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s second-term bid because he believed it was his turn to take over power. He also alleges Atiku worked against President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency.

Kachikwu accused Atiku of orchestrating political maneuvers for personal benefit, including deceiving former Governor Peter Obi about dominating northern support.

Kachikwu has challenged Atiku to publicly declare his support for the presidency to stay in the South for another six years, allowing him to support any southern candidate of his choice.

Kachikwu stressed the ADC’s commitment to fresh ideas and its refusal to be drawn into recycled battles among the old political class.

He asserts that the ADC is not for sale and will not be swayed by attempts to hijack the party for personal or sectional interests.

The accusations come amid speculation about the 2027 presidential elections and the potential candidacy of Atiku Abubakar.

A coalition of opposition leaders, including Atiku, has adopted the ADC as its platform, sparking controversy and internal conflicts within the party.

The ADC is currently embroiled in a deepening crisis, with Kachikwu alleging that the coalition’s takeover of the party is designed to serve Atiku’s 2027 ambition against southern interests.
