Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has expressed grave concern over the worsening security situation in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Atiku made the appeal in a public statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday.

He warned that terrorism is rapidly gaining ground in several regions and now poses a direct threat to Nigeria’s national unity.

According to the former Vice President, the tragic loss of lives is only one layer of the damage caused by these escalating attacks.

He stressed that these violent acts are sowing deep divisions and creating distrust among Nigeria’s diverse communities.

“The escalating terrorism plaguing various parts of Nigeria demands intensified government action,” Atiku declared.

He added that the people of Isa are already sending out distress signals for urgent help from the authorities.

“The people of Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State are urgently appealing for government intervention to protect their lives and property,” he said.

Atiku described the situation as both a distress call and a red flag for federal security agencies to act swiftly.

“This is an SOS and an early warning for the government and security agencies to act proactively,” he emphasized.

He further noted that military intervention alone will not solve the problem without a shared national commitment to unity.

“Our greatest strength against terrorism lies not in the barrels of guns but in the unbreakable bond of our collective unity,” he stated.

Atiku’s remarks follow a surge in terror-related activities in parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna States in recent months.

Several communities in Nigeria’s Northwest have experienced repeated attacks from armed groups often referred to as bandits or insurgents.

In Isa LGA specifically, residents have faced a rise in kidnappings, raids on farmlands, and deadly ambushes by gunmen.

Local sources say hundreds of residents have been displaced, and farming activities have been halted due to constant fear of attacks.

Traditional leaders in the area have repeatedly appealed to both the Sokoto State Government and federal authorities for reinforcement.

Security experts believe the terror networks in the region have grown more sophisticated, now operating across state borders with ease.

Atiku’s statement comes amid growing national criticism of the government’s handling of internal security threats, particularly in rural areas.

He urged Nigerians to remain united and vigilant, while calling on the government to shift from reactive to preventive measures.

Atiku has been an outspoken critic of insecurity under successive administrations and continues to use his platform to advocate for national cohesion.

While no official response had been issued by the federal government at the time of this report, security agencies are reportedly assessing the situation.

Observers say the growing violence in Nigeria’s Northwest could have wider implications for food security and national stability.

The former Vice President’s intervention is seen by many as a timely reminder of the urgency required in addressing rural terrorism.

Many Nigerians online have commended Atiku for speaking up, while others are demanding that more political leaders lend their voices to the crisis.

As 2027 draws closer, Atiku remains a key political figure, and his stance on security issues may shape future national discourse.
