Auto crash claims 75 lives, 304 wounded in Edo says FRSC

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), 75 people lost their lives in road accidents in Edo State between January and June 2025.

The Edo State Sector Commander of FRSC, Cyril Mathew, revealed that these fatalities occurred in 101 road crashes involving 903 passengers, with 304 sustaining injuries.

15 passengers killed in Jan, 18 passengers killed in Feb, 14 passengers killed in March, 4 passengers killed in April , 5 passengers killed in May and 19 killed in June.

The FRSC attributes most of these accidents to Brake failure.

A common cause of accidents, often due to poor vehicle maintenance.

Excessive speed can lead to loss of control and fatal crashes.

Reckless driving behaviors, such as tailgating or weaving in and out of lanes.

Use of phone while driving and distracted driving can lead to accidents.

Ignoring traffic rules and regulations.

The FRSC is working to reduce road accidents in Edo State by
Warning motorists.

The corps warns drivers against drunk driving, over-loading, over-speeding, and other hazardous behaviors.

FRSC conducts campaigns to educate the public on safe driving practices and road safety.

The corps calls on stakeholders to work together to achieve zero road traffic crashes in the same.

Road accidents have significant social and economic impacts on individuals, families, and communities.

Implementing safety measures and promoting responsible driving behaviors can reduce the number of accidents and save lives.

The FRSC’s efforts aim to create a safer driving environment and minimize the risk of accidents in Edo State.

According to a report, Mathew said the victims lost their lives in 101 road crashes that occurred in the state.

According to him, 903 passengers were involved in the accidents, 304 sustained injuries while 75 persons lost their lives within the period under review.

The FRSC Sector Commander said the Command has stepped up campaigns across the state to sensitise motorists on the need to imbibe safety culture on the road to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians.

He said the campaigns are part of efforts aimed at changing the road crash narrative in the state.

He, however, warned motorists against overloading, drunk driving, night driving, use of the phone and speeding for their safety and that of the passengers.

He called on stakeholders to work together with the corps to ensure zero road traffic crashes in the state.
