Bandits launched a late-night attack on Yan Kwada village in Faruruwa community, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, on Sunday, abducting five nursing mothers and stealing 50 cows along with other livestock.
The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, raided homes and caused chaos, forcing many residents to flee the area.
Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, Chairman of the Security Committee for Faruruwa and neighboring communities, confirmed the incident on Monday.
He expressed frustration over the continued attacks despite the presence of military and other security forces in the area.
Bagobiri revealed that during the attack, the bandits forcibly separated infants from their mothers, discarding the babies before abducting the women. While one of the kidnapped nursing mothers managed to escape and return home, the remaining four are still in captivity.
Bagobiri lamented the near-daily attacks on the community, including the theft of livestock, and criticized the lack of timely intervention from security operatives despite prior warnings.
“Even yesterday, we alerted security personnel when we heard the bandits were coming, but no action was taken until they invaded our homes and carried out the attack,” he said.
He appealed to President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and other top officials to intervene urgently and provide stronger security measures to protect the community.
While acknowledging the government’s earlier deployment of military forces, he urged for additional troops and resources to curb the escalating violence and restore safety in the region.
