Bandits have kidnapped the Ojibara of Bayagan, Oba Kamilu Salami, in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, deepening fears over rising insecurity across the state.
The traditional ruler was reportedly abducted on Saturday morning while on his farm. Although full details remain unclear, residents said the attack happened without warning, throwing the community into panic and confusion.
The abduction adds to a growing pattern of violent attacks and kidnappings in several states across the North-Central region. Earlier this week, bandits abducted 24 farmers in a fresh attack on communities in Niger State, intensifying public concern over safety in rural areas.
Security analysts say the kidnapping of traditional rulers marks a troubling trend, as local monarchs are often seen as stabilising figures within their communities.
Police authorities in Kwara State have yet to confirm the incident, and no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction as of the time of filing this report.
Residents are calling for swift intervention from security agencies to ensure the monarch’s safe return and prevent further attacks in the area.
