Bandits kill 1, abduct 4 in Abuja

Bandits in the wee hours of Sunday abducted four individuals from the Guto and Piyawe communities in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The attack which occurred around 12:30am resulted in the unfortunate death of a woman and the abduction of four residents.
According to local sources, two groups of assailants, numbering over 30, infiltrated the area, surrounding the communities and forcibly entering homes.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers arrived through the swamps into Piyawe, before moving to Guto and Piyawe, where they kidnapped a man and fatally shot a woman in her mid-forties, identified only as Madam Alice.
She had been visiting her ailing mother in Bwari when she was killed.
The bandits abducted two individuals from their homes in Guto and another from Tudun-Fulani, which is less than a kilometer from the council’s headquarters.
Residents recounted the harrowing two-hour ordeal, during which the attackers operated unchallenged by security forces.
One source who doesn’t want to be quoted according to The Authority described the terrifying experience, “We couldn’t sleep from 12:30 AM to almost 3 AM. Initially, we thought it was vigilantes, but the persistent gunfire made us realize it was bandits. We have had peace for a while, but this attack was well-coordinated, with two groups hitting Guto and Piyawe simultaneously. The weapons they used were sophisticated.”
Another resident from Tudun-Fulani criticized the police response, alleging that despite numerous calls to the Bwari divisional headquarters, no security forces arrived to confront the bandits.
“We felt helpless. The kidnappers operated for over an hour without any police or military intervention. Despite repeated calls, the police failed to show up,” he said.
