Bandits kill 12 persons, injure many in Imo

Bandits suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed twelve persons and injured many as they launched fresh attack in Imo state.
The persons killed were said to be okada riders and their passengers along Ogbaku – Obibi Agwa road on Tuesday 10th December, 2024.
From the report we gathered from eye witness and credible individuals, the bandits launched several attacks on the people, killing and robbing innocent people along the road
A stakeholder from Agwa, Mr Leonard Ajokubi said they were carrying dangerous weapons including AK-47 and matches.
Mr Ajokubi said that the suspects inflicted injuries on their victims and many won’t survive.
He said the group of bandits trooped out penultimate week, blocked the roads, robbed people and raped women.
He equally noted that they kidnapped some road users hence making it difficult for road users and Okada riders to operate.
He added that Farmers from those communities no longer go to farms for fear of being killed by the marauders.
The traditional ruler of Mbano Agwa autonomous community, HRH Eze Sylvester Onuegbu confirmed in a telephone interview that the suspected cattle rearers have actually been terrorizing their communities.
The President General of Mbano Agwa autonomous community, Mr Kyrian Ajoku also confirmed the incident and noted that they have informed the government and security agencies for intervention but all to no avail.
PG Ajoku said the suspects have taken over their farms, destroying crops, and trees leading to food scarcity.
He called on the government of Imo state led by Gov. Hope Uzodinma to come to their aid by removing the cattle rearers from their farms.
The President General of Ogbaku autonomous community, Hon Emmanuel Nwokoro who also confirmed the incident said it’s unheard of that human beings should be killing their fellow human beings for nothing.
He said it would lead to blood shed if their communities retaliate and called on government and security agencies to intervene quickly.
The Commissioner of Information Imo state, Declan Emelumba and the Police Spokesperson, Henry Okoye denied knowledge of it.
