A retired Nigerian Army officer was shot dead while a woman was abducted during a late-night attack by suspected bandits on a residential community in Nasarawa State located along the boundary with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagozola Makama, citing police sources, reported that the incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Friday at Plot 038 in the PGC Community, which borders Jikwoyi in the FCT.
The assailants reportedly stormed the residence of 46-year-old Silas Orite and forcefully whisked away his wife, Bukola Oluwatoyin Silas, 40, to an undisclosed location.
The report indicated that the community’s Chief Security Officer, Master Warrant Officer Reuben Yelwa, 61, a retired Nigerian Army personnel, intervened in an effort to assist during the attack but was fatally shot by the gunmen.
Police operatives subsequently visited the scene, documented relevant evidence and launched an investigation into the incident.
Security agencies have stepped up operations to secure the release of the abducted woman and apprehend those behind the attack.
Patrols and area domination operations have also been intensified to forestall further criminal activities in the community.
