Bandits slaughter 13 farmers in Niger

Terror bandits, on Wednesday, slaughtered 13 farmers in Anguwan Mai-Giro community of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The unfortunate attack was confirmed in a statement by Mr Yakubu Garba, the Deputy Governor of Niger State.
He described the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious, and callous.”
Yakubu expressed dismay over the brutality of the attack, adding that it was “utterly appalling and deeply disturbing” that such “barbaric and vicious acts” could be perpetrated against innocent people.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, the residents of Anguwan Mai-Giro, and the wider Shiroro community. He reassured them that the state government is determined to restore peace and security across Niger State, despite the increasing challenges posed by criminal elements.
The deputy governor also called on security agencies to remain resolute and undeterred in their efforts to combat these threats, promising the full support of the state government in their ongoing battle against criminal activities.
This attack is part of a disturbing trend of violence in the region. In March, bandits abducted over 20 women during an attack on a market in the Madaka community of Rafi LGA, also in Niger State.
Such attacks have significantly exacerbated Nigeria’s food security crisis, as the northern region, a key agricultural area, continues to be plagued by insecurity.
As the state mourns the loss of these farmers, there is a growing call for more effective measures to protect rural communities and ensure the safety of those who work tirelessly to feed the nation.
