Terror bandits have slaughtered at least 18 people in Bunkasau village, Zarummai ward of Bukkuyum local government area of Zamfara State.
This medium understand that the unfortunate attack occurred late Friday night when the criminal elements stormed the community, opening fire on residents.
According to residents, the attackers, numbering over 80 and riding on motorcycles, invaded the village around 9pm, shooting indiscriminately and leaving many injured.
Mahmud Dantawasa, Zamfara State Commissioner for Information and Culture, confirmed the incident.
He said 18 people were killed and several others sustained injuries.
While reacting to the attack, Governor Dauda Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the attacks on Bunkasau, Yar Galma, and Dogon Daji communities as senseless violence against innocent citizens.
He extended condolences to the bereaved families and directed the immediate deployment of a high-level delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, to provide support and ensure medical care for the injured.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Suleiman Idris, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to intensifying efforts to protect lives and restore peace across the state.
“Governor Lawal has directed the immediate deployment of a high-level delegation led by the Deputy Governor to convey condolences, support affected families, and ensure prompt medical attention for the injured,” the statement read.
