Bandits threaten to marry off Zamfara school girls

Students of Zamfara State College of Art and Science could be forced into marriage any moment, as bandits who abducted them six months ago have threatened to marry them off if their families fail to pay ransom within a week.

The girls were abducted along Birnin Magaji-Kaura Namoda Road on January 15, while returning from a wedding ceremony.

It was gathered that one of victim identified as Miss Musa was preparing for her final year exams at ZACAS when she got abducted.

Her coursemates have since graduated from the institution while she remained in captivity.

However, in a video on Saturday, the girls appealed to the Zamfara State governor, Dauda Lawal, to come to their rescue and prevent them from being married off to terrorists.

Ms Musa, who was the first to speak, said, “Dear parents, we are begging you in the name of God to come to our rescue. We are in a very terrible situation. We have spent 174 days in this forest, or approximately six Months. We are begging you in the name of God to rescue us.

“The former governor couldn’t rescue us. Please, Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, we are appealing to you to come rescue us. They have threatened to marry us off within a week. Please don’t allow that to happen. Don’t allow them to humiliate us”, she added.

Another captive who spoke with her eyes full of tears appealed to her family members to mobilise and meet the governor.

“Governor Dauda You are our last hope; please don’t allow them to marry us,” she sobbed.
