Bauchi Gov Fires Women Affairs Commissioner in Suprise Move

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has sacked Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, in what officials described as a minor cabinet reshuffle.

According to report, the decision was announced on Sunday through a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.

He said the removal takes immediate effect but gave no reason for the commissioner’s dismissal.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, has been relieved of her appointment with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Gidado added that Governor Mohammed appreciated Takko’s service to the state and wished her success in her future endeavors.

Takko, who was sworn into the State Executive Council on September 9, 2024, served for just over a year.

Before her appointment, she was the caretaker chairperson of Bauchi Local Government Area, a position she assumed in July 2023 under Governor Mohammed’s administration.

Her removal comes amid quiet political shifts in the state, with analysts speculating that the governor may be fine-tuning his cabinet ahead of major political battles.

However, no official explanation has been provided for her dismissal.

Takko’s exit adds to a growing list of cabinet reshuffles by the Bauchi governor, who has repeatedly emphasized the need for effective governance and loyalty among his appointees.
